ATEM welcomes contributions for publication of research papers and practical educational reports. Criteria for acceptance are as follows.
Research Papers
1 Does the theme or contents have practical value for education?
2 Is the thread of the argument coherent and consistent?
3 Does the report show a degree of originality?
4 Does the theme relate to the teaching of English through film?
5 Is the organization of the research paper adequately formed?
6 Does the report appropriately acknowledge previous research?
7 Is the thesis adequately demonstrated or proved?
Practical Education Reports
1 Does the theme or contents have practical value for education?
2 Is the thread of the argument coherent and consistent?
3 Does the report show a degree of originality?
4 Does the theme relate to the teaching of English through film?
5 Is the topic pertinent or appropriate?
6 Is the teaching method concretely and adequately described?
Note: Practical Education Reports introduce and discuss original and creative classroom lesson plans and material; unlike Research Papers, their contents do not necessarily need to be supported by statistical and theoretical proofs and arguments.
【Format】
・ Manuscripts should be prepared in MS-Word. For Japanese fonts, Mincho Tai, for English fonts, Times New Roman. Font size 10.5 point.
・ Paper size: A4. Leave 25mm blank space on all four sides. 30 lines per page. Maximum 13 pages, including notes, references, photos, graphs, etc.
・ In the case of photos from movies, the author must take full responsibility for copyright obligations, including obtaining permission from the copyright owner for reproduction rights as necessary.
・ Photos should be of good quality and be included in the body of the document.
・ Notes should be collected together and be appended at the end of the text. Quotations in languages other than English or Japanese should have translations into English or Japanese. English quotes do not need Japanese translation.
・ Non-Japanese proper nouns, including personal names, pen names, and place names, should appear in their first appearance in the text in their original language or spelling.
・ Other formatting should follow the most recent guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). There is also a Japanese translation of the Manual published by the Igaku Syoin which may be consulted.
【Abstract】 An abstract in English of about 200 words should be attached to the document. This applies also to submissions written in English. The formatting should follow the above guidelines.
【Sending the Submission】The manuscript should be e-mailed as an attachment to the ATEM office (office@atem.org
). If you do not receive an acknowledgement of receipt after 3 days (excluding weekends), please contact the ATEM office by e-mail or telephone.
【Deadline】 Deadline for submissions: September 30.

【Other notes】
・ Submissions should not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication at another place.
・ Submissions in other word processor formatting or submitted by fax will not be considered. Manuscripts will not be returned.
・ Reports written in English by non-native speakers should be proofread by native English speaker before submission.
【Referee】 Members of the Journal Editorial Committee will referee submissions and decide on the suitability for publication. The Committee may request some changes in the manuscript or changes in its classification (i.e., change from Research Paper to Practical Educational Report).
【Personal Bio】 Please include a short personal biography in your submission.
【Proofreading】 Authors will be asked to verify the final proofreading for misprints only. Please do not revise the contents of the article at this point.
【Offprints】 10 offprints of the published article will be sent to the author.
【Copyright】 The copyright for research papers and reports published in the ATEM Journal is the property of ATEM.
